Why We Started Curio Camps (And What We Promise Mississauga Families)
September 2026
Most camps introduce themselves with a registration page and a countdown clock. Before we ask any Mississauga family to book a week with us, we want to explain why Curio Camps exists and what you can hold us to.
This isn't a sales pitch. It's the reasoning behind every decision we've made so far.
We started with a question parents kept asking
"Where can my kid spend a school break doing something real — not just being supervised?"
Parents of kids ages 5–11 told us the same story over and over: lots of camps were busy, but few left their child proud of something they'd actually made. Screens filled the gaps. Days blurred together. The camps that did offer hands-on learning were often far away, outdoor-only, or booked months in advance.
Curio Camps is our answer: indoor STEM and art, run as one connected day rather than two separate subjects, where kids build, test, fail, fix, and create something they can explain at pickup.
Trust comes before tuition
Parents are careful for good reasons. You're trusting strangers with your child's day, your logistics, and often your first real break in weeks. A glossy brochure doesn't answer the questions that matter: Will my kid feel safe? Will the staff notice them? Is this just busywork with a STEM sticker on it?
So we try to answer those questions plainly, before you pay anything:
- Background-checked staff and a 1:8 staff-to-camper ratio, so every child is actually seen
- Educator-designed projects, not activities improvised day to day
- A clear daily schedule you can see ahead of time
- The Happy Camper Guarantee — if camp isn't the right fit, you can cancel within 20 days of registering for a full refund
Local businesses earn loyalty differently
We're building Curio Camps as a Mississauga business, not a franchise template dropped into another city. That means we'd rather earn a family's trust slowly than chase a quick booking. It also means we listen: early families who ask questions and share feedback shape how the camp runs.
We'd rather have a family decide Curio Camps isn't for them than sign up reluctantly. Clarity beats pressure.
Why we lean on community, not just ads
Honestly, a new camp lives or dies by word of mouth. We want to reach Mississauga parents through the channels that actually work — school chats, neighbourhood Facebook groups, and friends recommending friends — because those conversations only happen when a camp delivers.
If you're sceptical of new camps, good. Scepticism is healthy. Ask us hard questions. Read our FAQs. Then decide.
